NewsHere’s some good news – Doug Naylor, co-creator of Red Dwarf, has announced two more series of the cult sci-fi comedy.
Like series 10, the new 11th and 12th series will air on Dave. Of course, in typical Red Dwarf fashion, the series titles will actually be stylised Red Dwarf XI and Red Dwarf XII.
Both series of the boys from the dwarf’s new adventures will shoot back to back later this year. They will air in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Before then, Dave have added a bespoke collection of Dwarf episodes to their online streaming service UKTV Play, to tide you over in the meantime.
It’s no surprise, really, considering that Red Dwarf: Back To Earth (the first new episodes of the show to be shown on Dave) earned the status of biggest non-terrestrial commission, garnering over 2.6 million viewers for the Freeview channel Dave. The follow up six-part series, Red Dwarf X, never dipped below ratings of 1.6 million.
The new series, co-produced by Grant Naylor Productions, will reunite Craig Charles’ Lister, Chris Barrie’s Rimmer, Danny John-Jules’ Cat and Robert Llewellyn’s Kryten. Hopefully we’ll see Ace Rimmer return to stoke a few clippers, too.
Doug Naylor said: "Steve North and everyone at UKTV have been so supportive of Red Dwarf from the start of their involvement with the show. Steve originally asked for more shows back in 2012 but frustratingly it's taken until now to get our ducks in a row and all the boys available at the same time. Now they are, we're all absolutely delighted."
When we know more about the specifics of the new series (number of episodes, air-dates, guest stars) we’ll let you know. In the meantime, we’re going to grab a celebratory curry.
