Avengers: Infinity War will be the first superhero movie to shoot entirely in IMAX.
Avengers: Infinity War is set to be the biggest Marvel movie...and not just because it's actually two movies. And no, the fact that it's going to have to cram pretty much every superhero who has made an appearance across nearly twenty films by that point doesn't make it the biggest, either. Well, actually those things help, too.
Joe and Anthony Russo have made the decision to shoot both films entirely using the Imax/Arri 2D digital camera. From their statement:
"We felt that the best way to exploit the scale and scope required to close out the final chapter of these three phases, was to be the first films shot entirely on the Imax/Arri Digital camera."
The directors are currently shooting Captain America: Civil War, which will also use the same IMAX tech, although only for large action sequences.
Avengers: Infinity War: Part Iarrives on May 4th, 2018. Avengers: Infinity War: Part II arrives on May 3rd, 2019. Large checks for everyone involved will be arriving before and after those dates. Filming for Avengers: Infinity War begins in 2016.
