The Mad Max star will bundle up for the action duo in The Coldest City.
With the buzz around Mad Max: Fury Road and Charlize Theron’s performance in it building to epic proportions, the Oscar-winning actress has just signed up to work with probably the hottest action directing duo in Hollywood at the moment. Deadline reports that Theron will star in a spy thriller called The Coldest City for directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, who are still basking in the glory of having helmed John Wick.
The Coldest City is based on a graphic novel from Oni Press that is set before the fall of the Berlin Wall and follows Theron as an operative who, following the death of an MI6 officer, must find a list he was carrying which contained the identity of every secret agent working in the divided city. The script is by Kurt Johnstad, who worked on 300: Rise of an Empire and is one of the many writers given a crack at solving Aquaman for Warner Bros.
Theron is also a producer on The Coldest City, which will shoot this fall in Germany and is budgeted at more than $30 million. If that schedule holds, that means Leitch and Stahelski will probably get to John Wick 2 sometime next year, and Bloodshot after that. But when an A-list actress and an in-demand directing team gets together, that’s what happens.
