Independence Day 2 Set Photo of Jeff Goldblum

Almost 20 years to the day, Independence Day 2 will be coming to the big screen. Whether you want it or not, and even with a decided lack of Will Smith, there’s nothing that can stop this return of intergalactic aliens with a bloodlust for American monuments and serendipitously themed holiday destruction. However, for those still nostalgic for the 1996 blockbuster, there’s plenty of the familiar returning, not least of all is Jeff Goldblum.

Indeed Dean Devlin, a producer and co-writer on both Independence Day films, is taking a page out of Bryan Singer’s playbook by using social media to drum up buzz for his latest sequel. In the below image from Devlin’s Instagram account, fans can see the producer and writer “hanging with David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) 20 years later.”

The film, which is also co-written by director Roland Emmerich and James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man), picks up with the characters some decades later when the aliens return. Thus it will be up to Goldblum, Bill Pulman, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, and newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Jesse Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Travis Tope, Joey King, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward to save the day.
