The character actor joins Roland Emmerich's long-awaited sequel.
NewsIndependence Day 2 is really revving up production. After getting our first glimpse of Jeff Goldblum on the set of the long-waited sequel on Wednesday, we’ve got more casting news for the film today.
Deadline is reporting that William Fichtner has inked a deal with Fox to join the film as a top army general that will appear in not only ID2, but two subsequent sequels.
Fichtner has already gotten a taste of the franchise business, appearing in last summer’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as Eric Sacks, a role he’ll be reprising in the sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Half Shell, which is slated for 2016. Now he has Roland Emmerich’s big-budget sandbox to play in.
As a character actor, Fichtner has long been seen on film and television, appearing in plum roles in films such as The Dark Knight, Black Hawk Down and Heat, as well as big television roles on Prison Break and Invasion. Now, the blockbuster world beckons.
