We might not be seeing Tron 3 after all, as Disney apparently has a case of cold feet.
The long delayed third installment of the Tron franchise has apparently stalled at Disney. The Hollywood Reporter got word that Tron 3has had the plug pulled. The film (which apparently had a working title of Tron: Ascension) had reportedly been scheduled to begin filming this fall in Vancouver, with stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde returning along with director Joseph Kosinski, with talks of bringing Jared Leto into the fold.
As recently as last month, Tron: Legacy and likely Tron 3 star Olivia Wilde said that the only thing holding Tron 3 up was "finding the right story." While that story had apparently been found, she did caution that there was "still a lot to be done before it could actually happen."
Unfortunately, now it may not happen at all. We'll see if we can get any additional info out of Ms. Wilde or Disney in the coming days. In the meantime, we still think Tron: Legacy deserves a sequel, and you can read why right here.
