Exclusive: director Colin Trevorrow's involvement with the planned Flight Of The Navigator remake looks like it's over...

News

It's been some time now that we heard news on the planned remake ofFlight Of The Navigator. Off the back of the success of his excellent debut feature, Safety Not Guaranteed, Colin Trevorrow was chosen to direct the film, with regular collaborator Derek Connolly penning the script with him.

However, Trevorrow then got hired to direct Jurassic World, which finally lands in cinemas next week. And when we got a chance to chat to him about the film, we asked about the status of the Flight Of The Navigator remake.

"I think it's moved on," he told us, pretty much confirming that he's no longer involved with the project. Instead, Trevorrow is next to direct The Book Of Henry, which he describes as a "smaller film," and one "I'm really passionate about."

As for the Flight Of The Navigatorremake? "Derek and I did a script of that, but I'm not sure where they are with that one."

Given the numerous remakes of '80s and '90s films currently filling up development hell, we suspect that those who cherish the original Flight Of The Navigator won't mind if this particular project fizzles out. That said, we wouldn't be surprised if another director jumped aboard.

Our interview with Colin Trevorrow is here.
