The DC movie universe will be "great movies about superheroes," rather than superhero movies...
NewsWhen it comes to comic book movies, Warner Bros and DC seems to be taking a slightly different approach to its directors than Marvel Studios has been doing. Marvel's directors -- who we should note have enjoyed a lot of success -- seem to work within a framework established by studio boss Kevin Feige. It's little secret that Feige is a big part of the creative process at the studio, although that doesn't mean that directors haven't had their voice. The Russo brothers, for instance, seemed to get just what they promised on the screen with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Warner Bros, for better or worse, seems to be going more director-led. As such, Zack Snyder has been arguably the key driving force on Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, whilst the appointments of David Ayer to Suicide Squad, Patty Jenkins to Wonder Woman and James Wan to Aquamanare likely to see the trio having similar creative freedom. Furthermore, Chris Miller and Phil Lord are on the radar for The Flash movie.
Greg Silverman of Warner Bros has been chatting to The Hollywood Reporter about the studio's plans for its superhero films, then. "We have a great strategy for the DC films, which is to take these beloved characters and put them in the hands of master filmmakers and make sure they all coordinate with each other," he said.
"You’ll see the difference when you see Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad, Justice League and all the things that we are working on."
He gave a further indication as to the approach of the DC movie universe when he added that "the filmmakers who are tackling these properties are making great movies about superheroes; they aren’t making superhero movies. And when you are trying to make a good movie, you tackle interesting philosophies and character development. There’s also humour, which is an important part."
