Samuel L Jackson admits his surprise that he's not in Captain America 3. Plus, who is Martin Freeman likely to play in the film?
NewsProduction continues on the first of Marvel's 2016 movies, Captain America: Civil War. Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr and Scarlet Johansson lead the cast of that one, along with Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Martin Freeman, Daniel Bruhl, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Emily VanCamp, Elizabeth Olsen and Frank Grillo. Joe and Anthony Russo are back to direct after their success with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
The sizeable cast list that was announced by Marvel Studios, however, had one omission on it. And that omission was Nick Fury himself, Mr Samuel L Jackson. Talking to IGN, Jackson admitted "I was surprised I wasn't in Civil War," adding "because the Russo brothers told me I was. I don't know what's going on."
Will he still have an appearance in the film, and it's just being kept under wraps? Not sure. It's hardly as if Samuel L Jackson appearing in a Marvel film is the kind of surprise that needs to be kept under covers.
Also in Captain America news, there's been some speculation as to just where Martin Freeman fits into the ensemble. Latino Review reckons it has the answer, suggesting that he's going to be taking on the part of Edward Chase. Chase is the UK Prime Minister in Marvel-land, although he's not appeared in the Marvel cinematic universe yet. Take it with the requisite grain of salt for the time being though until it's confirmed.
Finally, in the era of set photos appearing in great numbers, you can't help but admire Paul Bettany's approach on Twitter...
