NewsBeing the last man or woman on Earth in a post-apocalyptic setting is a well-worn trope. From film to television to literature, and from The Twilight Zone to even comedic The Last Man on Earth, it can all be quite familiar (we’ve even ranked our favorites).
Yet Z for Zachariah offers a very curious new wrinkle to the familiar concept: instead of it being one lone survivor, or a family, or a perfect pair…it’s a triangle of two men and one woman. All of a sudden, the quintessential dynamics of a love triangle literally take on holding the fate of the world in their hands—and the violence with which they’ll use to connect.
Starring Margot Robbie, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Chris Pine, this adaptation of a Robert C. O’Brien novel offers an ominous look at relationships when things run at the end of the world.
The film is written by Nissar Modi and is directed by Craig Zobel. Z for Zachariah opens on August 21, 2015.
