UPDATE:

Just a quick one. The Wrap is now reporting that Emily Blunt has been offered the lead role in The Girl on the Train. She's said to be in talks for the role, although hasn't at this stage signed on the dotted line. She's also in the midst of making The Huntsman right now.

Here's our original story on the film...

Paula Hawkins' thriller The Girl on the Train has become one of the breakout bestselling novels of the past year or two. And, with one eye we suspect on the numbers generated by bringing Gone Girl to the screen, a film version is now accelerating.

DreamWorks (the live action bit) picked up the rights to the novel, and Marc Platt is producing. Both were aboard a possible film take on The Girl on the Train prior to its publication, and since it hit big, it would be fair to say their enthusiasm has not dampened.

Furthermore, things are moving quickly. The Help director Tate Taylor is already aboard and will helm this one, whilst Secretary scribe Erin Cressida Wilson is penning the screenplay.

We won't spoil the book by talking about its plot here, but it's worth seeking out if you're looking for a quality thriller. Let's just leave it at that.
