2017's The Wolverine 3 will be Hugh Jackman's last Wolverine film, he's reiterated...

News

Since he debuted the role in Bryan Singer's original X-Men film, Hugh Jackman has played the part of Wolverine across seven movies. He's expected to appear at some point in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse too, and he's already confirmed for 2017's The Wolverine 3, which may or may not co-star Patrick Stewart.

However, Jackman hinted earlier in the year that The Wolverine 3 would be the last time he played the character. And in a new interview with The Huffington Post, he's confirmed that's the case.

Chatting about The Wolverine 3, he said that "weirdly, I'm really excited about shooting it. I feel great enthusiasm. I suppose it's denial - like the football player who announces their retirement before their last season - and so I'm really looking forward to it."

He's in training for the role once again, and admits he'll miss Wolverine when it's all over. "I feel very blessed that I loved playing this part. The last Wolverine and that last X-Men were maybe two of the best and I feel like, hopefully, we'll do it again with this last one."

"Hopefully, I'm not that actor in 10 years who's employed going 'why did I ever leave it?' and then begging to come back."

Jackman was also asked about rumored cameos for Wolverine in Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse, and he played defensive shots with both questions. He neither confirmed nor denied he'd be appearing.

As to the future of Wolverine once he hangs up his claws? "I'm sure they've already started casting, you know? Someone may sign up for an 11-picture deal, as we speak..." Good luck to whoever gets that job...
