It's definite: Pitch Perfect 3 is happening, and is set for release in July 2017.
NewsAnother big hit in what's turning out to be a strong year for Universal at the box office, Pitch Perfect 2 has thus far brought in over $250 million at the global box office, off quite a modest budget. Even before the film's release though, there was chatter about a further sequel going ahead, and now it's official: Pitch Perfect 3 is being lined up for the summer of 2017.
Universal has earmarked the film for July 21st 2017, and already, both Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are confirmed to return for Pitch Perfect 3. Expect Hailee Steinfeld to be back too, given that she signed on for multiple movies when she was added to the Pitch Perfect 2 cast.
The third film is being written once again by Kay Cannon (who penned the first two), although it's unclear so far whether Elizabeth Banks will direct this one. She'll be back as producer, but having made her feature directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2, there are other projects she's exploring as well. We'll wait and see there.
If Pitch Perfect 3 hits big as well, of course, then expect further sequels, and our guess would be a spinoff or two. Er, the Pitch Perfect cinematic universe, anyone?
