Alicia Vikander has been cast as the female lead opposite Matt Damon in Bourne 5, thus skipping Assassin's Creed.

Alicia Vikander has certainly been making waves since wowing audiences in this spring’s sci-fi thriller Ex Machina. Having been up simultaneously for roles both in the still untitled Jason Bourne 5 film, as well as the Michael Fassbender-starring Assassin’s Creed movie, it momentarily looked like she would be cast in both.

Alas, however, she apparently had to make a choice, and as confirmed by Deadline, it was to star in Bourne alongside Matt Damon, Viggo Mortensen, and also a returning Julia Stiles.

Vikander has been a major Hollywood commodity since Ex Machina, having previously had to drop out of the Cannes sold two-hander picture with her and Tom Hanks, The Circle. The Swedish star has become increasingly sought after since then. She can next be seen opposite Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer in Guy Ritchie’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and later in the year in director Tom Hooper’s transgender period piece with Eddie Redmayne, The Danish Girl. There is also The Weinstein Company’s Tulip Fever on the horizon, and finally next to Bradley Cooper in Adam Jones. It would seem Ava is enjoying her new freedom, indeed.
