It would be fair to say that Channing Tatum is not a fan of G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra...
NewsAs he hits the promotional trail for the upcoming Magic Mike XXL, Channing Tatum has appeared on the Howard Stern radio show, and, er, was fairly candid when the host raised the subject of G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra. This was the first G.I. Joe movie, back in 2009, released before Tatum's star and box office clout suddenly rocketed.
"Look, I'll be honest," Tatum said to Stern, "I fucking hate that movie. I hate that movie." So what happened?
"I was pushed into that movie," he explained. "From Coach Carter, they signed me to a three picture deal. They give you the contract and they go 'three picture deal, here you go.' And as a young [actor] you're like 'oh my god, that sounds amazing, I'm doing that.'"
As such, Tatum did his G.I. Joe duties. But, wondered Stern, what didn't he like about the movie? "The script wasn't any good," Tatum said. Admitting that he was "super lucky and blessed to have been given that film," Tatum did note that he was a fan of the cartoon growing up, and that he'd been keener to take on the role of Snake Eyes (the role taken on by Ray Park in the movie). "I just didn't know if I wanted to be G.I. Joe."
"That was really not all that bad," he then noted, but did say that he had no choice really on making the film. "You're doing this or we're gonna sue you," was his recollection.
G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra is available on DVD and Blu-ray.
