The Uncharted movie's looking less likely to hit its June 2016 release date, as Seth Gordon departs the director's chair...

News

Ah. The long-planned movie of the excellent Uncharted video game series has hit yet another problem, with the news of someone else departing the project. This time it's director Seth Gordon, who's been attached to the film for some time, and he's said to have left the project as Sony seeks to take it a different way.

Since the change at the top of Sony Pictures earlier this year, Uncharted is apparently one of the projects that's remained in flux. New boss Tom Rothman was ultimately faced with the choice of cutting the film's budget, or trying a different direction. He's plumped for the latter, and Gordon (who helmed The King Of Kong) has departed as a consequence.

At one stage, David O. Russell was being courted to direct, while Mark Wahlberg also dropped out of the project, after originally been linked with the role of Nathan Drake.

The hunt is now on for a new director, with Sony looking to build a major, Indiana Jones-esque movie franchise off the back of Uncharted. The chances of the first movie hitting the June 12th 2016 release date look incredibly slim right now, though. Expect that to move in due course.

And can someone give Nathan Fillion a call about this one, please? Thanks.

The Wrap.
