We don't know too many people who have a lot of affection for Tim Burton's live action Alice In Wonderland, and nor do we know too many people who felt making the role of the Mad Hatter so prominent in the movie was a wise move. On the other hand, we know no shortage of people (us included) who hold Johnny Depp as a an actor in high regard. However, it seems that the news that he's circling Alice In Wonderland 2 isn't going down particularly well.
It's not much of a surprise that this is a project Disney has in development. The first movie made over $1bn at the global box office, and the Lewis Carroll source material leaves plenty still to explore. As such, Linda Woolverton is penning a screenplay with the working title Through The Looking Glass.
And now, it's being reported that Johnny Depp is likely to get involved, and is in negotiations for the movie. It may or may not be coincidence that this happens a week after The Lone Ranger performed below box office expectations in the US, although he's also committed to make Pirates Of The Caribbean 5, due in cinemas in 2015.
The positive thing about Alice In Wonderland 2 is the apparent choice to direct the movie. The Muppets' James Bobin is reportedly set to start work on the movie, once he's done with Muppets Most Wanted.
