Bryan Singer, always one to dangle shiny new toys before fans through Twitter and other social media means, has released online the first visual hint of Quicksilver’s role in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Just glimpsed from the outside of his home, it is clear that Pietro Maximoff will play some large role to the X-Men’s time-travelling plight this go-round. And why not? After all, unlike other future iterations of the character, this one can be openly declared as Magneto’s son.
To much controversy and fanfare, Evan Peters of American Horror Story was cast as the speedy mutant in May. This occurred even though Joss Whedon had written the well-known wider-universe Marvel character into his script for The Avengers 2, which is using him anyway (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Peters’ castmate from Kick-Ass of all things). Fans have drawn forum lines in the sand over which they support, but Singer draws first buzz with this pic.
X-Men: Days of Future Past was a brief comic book story by Chris Clarement and John Byrne that told of an alternate future where mutants have become hunted by Sentinels and run nearly to extinction because of the Brotherhood assassination of a key U.S. senator. It is unclear how much of that narrative will actually appear in the film of the same name.
