Such is the force of the internet rumor, that Lucasfilm has been moved to comment on one that was gathering pace. We didn't cover the original story in truth, which was the suggestion that JJ Abrams was about to walk away from Star Wars: Episode VII.
He'd hinted in an interview before that the idea of moving to England for six months or so to make the movie wasn't entirely in his comfort zone, and there had been chatter for a few weeks that he was thinking of quitting the new Star Wars movie. However, there was never a substantive source that we could find.
That didn't stop the rumours spreading, and Lucasfilm has now stepped in to shut them down. The firm issued a statement yesterday that said "There is no truth to the rumour. JJ is having a great time working on the script and is looking forward to going into production next year". In truth, it's a bit damned if it does, damned if it doesn't here. If it says nothing, the rumours spread. If it says something, there's going to be a proportion of people who suggest the 'no smoke no fire' line. Us? We think this one was an unsubstatiated rumour, nothing more nothing less. The lack of a concrete source leads us to think that it's still business as usual.
Star Wars: Episode VII is still planned for a 2015 release. We're expecting to hear more news on the movie at the big Star Wars celebration event coming up in Germany at the end of the month. We'll keep you posted...
