No, it's not Rocky VII. In fact, it's not even really a Rockymovie. But Sylvester Stallone is indeed going to play cinema's favorite boxer one more time in Creed. Does that name ring a bell? The plan is for the Italian Stallion to not enter the ring as a fighter, but rather to train the grandson of his legendary opponent, Apollo Creed. The plan is for Fruitvale Station director, Ryan Coogler, to helm the film with that film's star, Michael B. Jordan to play the title role.
Deadline is reporting that Coogler wants Creed to be his follow-up to Fruitvale Station, and so this movie could come together pretty fast. There is something appealing about the basis of this story. The last Rockymovie, Rocky Balboa, was far better (and more moving) than it had any right to be, and Stallone proved he could still put some life and heart into a character that had, unfortunately, become a bad joke in the franchise's later entries. The idea of Rocky returning to train the grandson of his rival and friend (a man who, it should be noted, Rocky was indirectly responsible for the death of) could mean there's a little more of that sympathetic, haunted performance left in Stallone.
There's plenty more on this over at Deadline, so get going!
