The oft-delayed 47 Ronin film, starring Keanu Reeves is actually (finally) going to open by Christmas, it appears. The first official trailer for the film just hit the web, and, if nothing else, the film looks full of mystical goodies and samurai fun. The problem, of course, is that the actual legend of the Forty-seven Ronin that the movie is based on generally doen't have things like magic, giants, or trolls in them...but hey, it's a movie, right?
47 Ronin stars Keanu Reeves as Kai, a half-Japanese, half-British outcast who, like other elements of the film, has absolutely nothing to do with the original legend. The film does also star Pacific Rim's Rinko Kikuchi, so there's that. The film also marks the feature length directorial debut of Carl Erik Rinsch, who seems to have had his work cut out for him, as this looks like a rather ambitious film.
47 Ronin opens on December 25th, 2013, and hopefully isn't going to be a case of cinematic seppuku.
