Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill will appear again in Agents of SHIELD, still reeling from events in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
If you have seen the ending of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, then chances are you noticed SHIELD’s second-in-command Maria Hill, played by How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders, was seeking new employment at Stark Industries. Yet, we’d dare say that this stint in the private sector is not destined to last long, as seemingly confirmed when Marvel announced that Ms. Smulders would be appearing again on ABC’s Agents of SHIELD.
Alongside (former?) boss Nick Fury, aka Samuel L. Jackson, Smulders’ Maria Hill will be appearing on the April 29, 2014 episode of Agents of SHIELD, a series on which she has not visited since the show’s debut pilot last year.
Executive Producers Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell told Marvel that Hill’s return will directly deal with the aftermath of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Hill’s newfound cynicism about the organization she and Coulson had risen so high in together. While Hill is looking to the future at Stark Industries, these apparent two old friends will find conflict over the future of SHIELD.
Said Bell, “[Hill’s] always thought the world of [Coulson]. They have a really strong bond between the two of them and they both very much believed and believe in this organization and in their relationship with Nick Fury, [but] as a result of things that happen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, they come out of the experience with two different conclusions. So that results in tension.”
Smulders and Hill will appear in the April 29, 2014 episode of Agents of SHIELD at 8pm ET/PT on ABC.
