Todd McFarlane's Spawn comic book was last adapted in 1997, with Michael Jai White in the lead role and John Leguizamo as The Violator. Although a modest hit, its critical response was negative, and a proposed sequel sadly failed to emerge.
McFarlane's been talking about the hopes for a new Spawn movie for years, but Jamie Foxx's interest in the project may finally get things moving. Foxx is, of course, playing Electro in next year's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and it was during an interview about that movie that Foxx mentioned to Movies.com that he was "aggressively pursuing" both a lead role in a movie about Mike Tyson, and also a new adaptation of Spawn.
"Those are two roles I would just love to do," Foxx said. "I'm aggressively pursuing them."
Could Foxx's enthusiasm for Spawn finally get it from page to screen? We'll have to wait and see.
