Following in the footsteps of Maleficent, Disney will make a live-action version of Beauty and the Beast.
Disney's Beauty and the Beast will get the live-action treatment with Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) directing. While critical reaction to Maleficenthas been lukewarm, there's no arguing that Disney's new adaptation of their version of Sleeping Beautyis a roaring success at the box-office.
Not only did this likely light the Beauty and the Beast fire, but it also bodes well for other live-action Disney properties in development like Jon Favreau's Jungle Book and Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella.
We recently pegged Gaston as a Disney villain who could make any actor's year, and it looks like we were right. The announcement comes courtesy of Variety, although their "plot details are unknown at this time" is probably a joke. Right? It's Beauty and the Beast, after all. Although, if it turns out the title of the film is actually Gaston...
