20th Century Fox and James Cameron have confirmed Sigourney Weaver's return for all three Avatar sequels.
Last month, Sigourney Weaver revealed that she was expected to return for all three Avatar sequels. Now, 20th Century Fox and James Cameron have confirmed that expected resurrection for the Grace Augstine character with a press announcement heralding Weaver’s return.
Said Cameron in a statement: “Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made Aliens. We're good friends who've always worked well together,
so it just feels right that she's coming back for the Avatar sequels. Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she's playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films.”
Weaver also joins original Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Stephen Lang for the upcoming trilogy of follow-ups.
Cameron is currently working with screenwriters Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds, The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Jurassic Park IV) and Shane Salerno (Savages, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem) to pen his screenplay treatments with the plan to shoot all three sequels simultaneously. Each film is slated for a December release beginning in 2016 and carrying on into 2017 and 2018. It will be seven years since the first Avatar when the sequel drops.
