BBC One Releases Tom Hardy’s mug shot as both Kray twins
BBC One issued the first wanted poster for their upcoming crime thriller Legend about some legendary British gangsters. The Kray brothers. Tom Hardy is playing legendary British gangster brothers Ronnie and Reggie Kray in Legend. The 36-year-old actor stepped out to show off his new digs in the first images we’re getting from the BBC One drama.
Legend is based on John Pearson's book The Profession of Violence. The movie follows the rise and fall of mob twins Ronnie and Reggie Kray who had a stranglehold on the London underworld in the 1950s and 1960s.
The Krays were tough. Reggie almost killed his brother in a fight when they were eight years old. After that they decided to beat up everyone else in London. They both became boxers and neither lost a match. Ever. They got drafted. Stayed for a little bit and walked out. When the C.O. tried to stop them, the Kray twins beat him up. When the cops tried so serve AWOL papers on the twins the next morning, they beat the shit out of them. All of them.
Ron and Reg’s crew, The Firm, organized crime in England in the 50s and 60s. The Krays ran the crime rackets in London's East End until they got pinched for popping rival mobsters George Cornell and Jack 'The Hat' McVitie in 1969 and were sent up for life. A bad ticker got Ronnie in 1995. Reggie died in 2000, eight weeks after he was granted release to deal with cancer.
When he got the role, Hardy said "I've got to work out how to play both twins, which will be fun. It's another experiment and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm not going to put too much pressure on myself, I just want to have some fun and see what's out there and explore with the work." Tom Hardy was also recently cast in an Elton John biopic. The Dark Knight Rises actor can look like anyone.
Ron and Reggie Kray’s story was put on screen before in the 1990 film The Krays, starring Martin and Gary Kemp, the twins of Spandau Ballet.
Legendwill also star Chazz Palminteri, Christopher Eccleston and David Thewlis and Australian actress Emily Browning. It is expected to be released in 2015.
Legend will be directed by Brian Helgeland, who won an Oscar for co-writing an adaptation of James Ellroy’s novel LA Confidential in 1997.
