The famous director has solidified his plans for his reunion with Tom Hanks and his Roald Dahl adaptation.
Steven Spielberg always has something in development. The famous director is known for never staying put for too long, always attaching himself to numerous projects, whether in the director chair or in a producing capacity. Now the director has announced his next two directing gigs, his first since 2011's Lincoln, and when they'll be released.
First up is the still untitled Cold War spy thriller that Spielberg has set up with frequent collaborator Tom Hanks. Set for October 16, 2015, the film centers on real life attorney James Donovan who was sent to Russia in 1962 to negotiate the release of spy-plane pilot Francis Gary Powers. Hanks will portray Powers and the film's script is being tackled by the prolific Oscar-winning team of Joel and Ethan Coen.
Stepping outside the historical drama genre, Spielberg will also direct the adaptation of Roald Dahl's children's novel, TheBFG, which is set for release July 1, 2016. The BFG, which stands for Big Friendly Giant, is the story of a girl who finds herself brought into the world of giants, and joins forces with the BFG to fight to stop less friendly giants from eating children.
Spielberg is still rumored to be involved with Dreamworks/Fox's Robopocalypse and another historical drama, Montezuma, but it seems these other projects have taken first priority.
