Last year's The Bourne Legacy has its share of fans, but even the most ardent would probably admit that it was a long way away from the peaks of the franchise. It scraped its way to over $100m in the US, but left doubts as to where things would head next.
As it turns out, plans for a new Bourne movie are still ongoing, although changes are afoot behind the camera it seems.
Matt Damon's position on returning to the Bourne franchise has remained steadfast, in that it's entirely down to whether Paul Greengrass is directing or not. Universal therefore is playing safe, and planning to explore the further adventures of Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross instead.
The studio has hired Anthony Peckham (Invictus & Sherlock Holmes) to pen the screenplay which is surprising given that Tony Gilroy wrote the screenplays for all the previous films in the series and directed The Bourne Legacy. We'd be surprised if he got the director's chair again, in truth.
More news on the next Bourne movie when it's available.
