Shane Black is going to reboot Predator over at 20th Century Fox.
There's going to be a Predatorreboot. Was this inevitable? Maybe. We figure once they rebooted RoboCop, all bets were off. It's not all bad news, though. Shane Black (Iron Man 3, Lethal Weapon, Hawkins in the original Predatorfilm...do we really need to introduce him?) is writing the treatment, and then Fred Dekker (Monster Squad) will handle the actual script. Alright.
There's not much else to report right now. When you talk about rebooting Predator...what exactly are you talking about? Is this going to be another jungle survival story that will ultimately lead to a man vs. alien showdown? Predatoris one of those perfectly realized action films, and there's no reason to revisit that particular story. Predator 2 moved the setting from the jungle to the cities, while 2010's Predatorsset the action back in the jungle, albeit an alien one.
Like RoboCop, a Predatorreboot will have to find some new themes to explore, even if the setting ends up being something familiar. Good luck trying to top Stan Winston's creature design, though.
