The director on board to produce and maybe more Jake Tapper's novel.
Sam Raimi has stayed relatively quiet since leaving the Spider-Man world behind. Besides the back to basics horror Drag Me To Hell, the only other picture Raimi has directed remains Oz the Great and Powerful. Around these parts, Raimi is the legend that brought us Ash Williams and the Evil Dead Trilogy and the ahead-of-its-time cult favorite Darkman. Fans of Raimi know that he's an incredibly creative director and now that he's free of Marvel's never-ending slate, they anticipate what the man will do next.
Now we just may know. According to Variety, Raimi will be producing, with an eye on directing, an Afghanistan War drama based on Jake Tapper's book The Outpost: An Untold Story Of American Valor. Rob Tapert and Paul Merryman will co-produce.
Tapper is best known as CNN's chief Washington correspondent and host of The Lead With Jake Tapper. The Outpost is named after an actual Combat Outpost named Keating located in Afghanistan in the precarious position only 14 miles away from the Pakistani boarder. The outpost is famous after American prevailed in a daylong fire fight with the Taliban, outnumber 53 to 400, on October 3, 2009.
Raimi is also said to be overseeing the production of the script, which is being tackled by the writing duo of Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter).
