Carrie Fisher's daughter is taking on a role in JJ Abrams' Star Wars movie. Who is she playing? Well...
Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, has been cast in Star Wars: Episode VII, in what is almost certainly a very small role. Latino Review first broke the news, and while there has been no official confirmation just yet, all signs point to this being true.
Now, here's where things get sketchy. Because of the potential spoiler-y nature of this, we're giving you a chance to opt out and instead visit any number of our other Star Wars: Episode VII articles. Here they are.
So, please consider the source on this one. The speculation about Lourd's role in Star Wars: Episode VII falls into that "well, it makes sense, so why can't it be true" category...which usually means you should beware. Especially when the source is England's Daily Mail, who aren't exactly known for their devotion to honesty.
Anyway, they claim that Lourd is playing a young Princess Leia in a flashback.
Have flashbacks ever been utilized in a Star Wars movie? Considering that the trademark pacing of all Star Wars films involves a constant sense of forward motion, it's hard to picture anything that would break up the rhythm (other than, say, a Gungan) than a flashback. It would be pretty jarring seeing another actress (even one with a resemblance to Carrie Fisher) playing the Princess Leia at roughly the same age as Carrie Fisher was when she first took over the role.
I'm not saying this isn't true. I'm just hoping it isn't.
Filming on Star Wars: Episode VII continues as we speak, and despite Harrison Ford's recent unfortunate injury, Disney are still determined that the film will open on December 18th, 2015. Incidentally, Aint it Cool are reporting a very specific (potentially spoiler-y) plot point about why that might be difficult. We won't talk about it here, but it's worth a look if you're into that sort of thing.
