Ian McKellen stars as Sherlock Holmes in Mr. Holmes, directed by Bill Condon.
What a talented bunch of thesps there are currently playing Sherlock Holmes. In just the last few years we've had Benedict Cumberbatch on the BBC's superlative Sherlock, Jonny Lee Miller on CBS'Elementary(which really deserves a fair shake), and Robert Downey Jr. in two movies that maybe we like a bit less than the two aforementioned TV series. But now you can add Ian McKellen to the list.
Ian McKellen is Sherlock Holmes in Bill Condon's Mr. Holmes, based on Mitch Cullin's novel, A Slight Trick of the Mind. Mr. McKellen plays the great detective at the age of 93, an age that Sir Ian hasn't quite reached, but we expect he will, and hopefully many more beyond it. The first image of Ian as Sherlock comes courtesy of his very own Twitter account.
Over 70 actors have previously played Sherlock Holmes. Now he's 93 years old and it's my turn. #MrHolmespic.twitter.com/B9HkUgfkCv
