Chloe Moretz has been vocally cast in the lead role of Studio Ghibli's newest film, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.

The Wind Rises may sadly be Hayao Miyazaki’s final directorial effort, but the sensational Japanese animation studio he co-founded, Studio Ghibli, lives on, and they have a new picture releasing this fall: The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. And now, the English language version, which clearly has an eye on awards season, has cast one of the biggest names in young Hollywood as its titular character.

As first reported in Deadline, Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, Let Me In) continues the trend of big names signing on to the English language versions of Ghibli movies (anyone recall Christian Bale, Billy Crystal and Lauren Bacall sharing scenes, at least vocally, in Howl’s Moving Castle?). Moretz joins a voice cast that includes Caan, Mary Steenburgen, Darren Criss, Lucy Liu, Beau Bridges, and James Marsden.

The picture is directed by Grave of the Fireflies’ Isao Takahata and is based on ancient Japanese folklore about a miniature woman found inside a stick of bamboo who grows, literally and figuratively, into one of the land’s most enthralling and admired figures before destiny intervenes.

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya will be released on October 17, 2014.
