The cult classic anime Kite is getting the big screen treatment and we have the HD trailer here!
With comic book adaptations making bank at the box office, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood looked to the world of anime for new sources of inspiration. The world of anime is full of stories that would translate into explosive blockbusters for studios, and in the near future it's almost certain that these stories will make their way to the big screen.
One of those stories is already on its way. Kite, the cult classic anime by Yasuomi Umetsu, has been adapted by director Ralph Ziman, a South African director most well known for his film Gangsters Paradise: Jerusalema. Kitetells the story of a young woman, Sawa, on a quest for vengeance after her policeman father and mother are brutally murdered in a double homicide. Teaming up with her father's ex-partner and a mysterious friend from the past, Sawa transforms into a ruthless assassin looking to mow down anyone who had a hand in her parents' murder.
Sawa will be portrayed by India Eisley (Secret Life Of An American Teenager), with Samuel L. Jackson and Callan McAuliffe (I Am Number Four) rounding out the cast. The new trailer shows Eisley kicking all kinds of butt as Eisley while a voiceover from Jackson laments the monster that she has become.
In an interesting move, Kite will first premiere exclusively on DIRECTV on August 28th, followed by a limited/VOD release on October 10.
