Idris Elba is in talks to star as a Merlin-like figure who mentors King Arthur in Guy Ritchie's reimagining of the legend.
The story of King Arthur is written in the stars, especially when some come down to play the pivotal roles.
It has been revealed that Idris Elba (Pacific Rim, Thor) is currently in talks to play a Merlin-like mentor figure in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming King Arthur film.
Being produced by Warner Brothers, the 2016 slated reimagining of the Arthurian legend is seeking Elba with a straight offer, even as the studio is planning to test multiple actors for the part of the titular Arthur.
Written by Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, Batman & Robin), the new King Arthur film from the director of Sherlock Holmes is seeking to reimagine the tale in a slightly more fantastic way than the grim, gritty, and ultimately forgotten manner of the 2004 King Arthur, which starred Clive Owen and Keira Knightley in a “historic” rendering of the Arthurian legend.
WB previously attempted to make an Arthur and Lancelot movie with Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington in the role of Lancelot, but the movie never got out of the scripting stage.
