He's done westerns, crime drama, war movies...is sci-fi the final frontier for Quentin Tarantino?
In idle chatter at Den of Geek, the subject of "what genre should Quentin Tarantino tackle next" often comes up. This might just be because there tends to be an awful lot of idle chatter around here, in general. The point is, we always secretly hoped he would have done Casino Royale (not that we have anything against the superb finished product from Martin Campbell), and maybe someday we'll get to see him tackle Bond in some capacity. But there's one genre that always comes up: science fiction.
At the San Diego Comic-Con, while discussing his Django/Zorro crossover comic book, someone asked Mr. Tarantino the question that we've been asking each other for ages. Would he do a science fiction movie? "If you had asked me a few years ago I would have said: 'Nah, not really, I don't know.' But i have a little idea right now. It's a little flower, you know, like a bean sprout, but those tend to grow into stalks. So this is the first time I'll be able to say 'maybe.' It won't be a spaceship sci-fi, it'll be earthbound."
So, my dream of a Tarantino space opera may be a little too ambitious at the moment, but we'll take whatever we can get.
While we were all over SDCC this year, we weren't at this particular panel, so I owe a hat-tip to IndieWirefor the above quote.
