SImon West would want a Con Air 2 to do something radical. Con Air in space, perhaps...
Possibly the finest old school Hollywood action movie of the 1990s was the peerless Con Air, a film that took a marvellous collection of characters, and put most of them on a plane for the movie. Furthermore, the film boasted Nicolas Cage at the height of his action movie powers. And the rabbit/box interface moment.
There's been chatter from time to time about a Con Air 2, but never really much substance to it. Director Simon West has never ruled it out though, and in a new interview with Screen Daily, he's said that "there are always rumours about a Con Air 2".
But what would tempt him to do it? "I would do it if it was completely turned on its head. Con Air in space, for example - a studio version where they’re all robots or the convicts are reanimated as super-convicts, or where the good guys are bad guys and the bad guys are good guys. Something shocking. If it was clever writing it could work".
Cyrus the Cyborg Virus, then?
West is currently crowdfunding for his next film, Salty, having recently finished work on a new Jason Statham project, Wild Card (previously known as Heat).
