The Spongebob Movie takes Nickleodeon's surreal characters into the 3D realm. Here's a new trailer for Sponge Out Of Water...
There's something wonderfully tactile about the fleshed-out, computer-generated characters in Paramount Animation's forthcoming Spongebob Squarepants movie. Sure, the characters' natural environment might be in the hand-drawn, 2D realm, but Squidward, Patrick, and Spongebob look entirely at home in their pudgy, cleanly-lit 3D form - they're like toys drawn vividly to life.
The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water sees its jaundiced hero head off on the trail of a recipe stolen by a pirate called Burger Beard, who happens to be played by Antonio Banderas. To even the odds, Spongebob and his friends transform themselves into superheroes, which means we're probably in for lots of action and surreal jokes at the expense of some major summer blockbusters. Slash has a cameo and, if the trailer below's anything to go by, there's a weird preoccupation with ice-cream.
The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water is out on February 15th, 2015 in the US and 20th March 2015 in UK cinemas.
