Watch Kristen Stewart as a Guantanamo Bay guard in the new trailer for Camp X-Ray.
Making a movie with a subject as politically charged as Guantanamo Bay is needless to say a difficult challenge. Sure, casting a movie star like Kristen Stewart will help get attention, but the film itself needs to stand on its own feet. And at least as according to the early buzz coming out of Sundance Film Festival, IFC Films’ upcoming Camp X-Ray appears to do just that.
From first-time feature writer and director Peter Sattler, Camp X-Ray tells the unlikely story of a young Pvt. Amy Cole who joined the military to do something more important with her life, but comes face-to-face with the difficult global questions surrounding her first assignment: Guantanamo Bay. While facing the vitriol of both unapologetic jihadists and the opinions of superior officers, she also meets a detainee that she strikes up an unlikely friendship with, Ali Amir (Payman Maadi). Caught on different sides of a war, the two must face what being human really means.
Camp X-Ray is in theaters on October 17, 2014.
