Ant-Man kicks off principal photography this week, and some new character details have emerged.
Ant-Man begins principal photography in Atlanta this week. Don't be confused, the footage screened at SDCC this year was preliminary footage which will probably still make it into the final film in some form. There's probably plenty more pre-viz stuff already in the can, which should help the film meet its July 17th, 2015 release date.
Varietypoints out how Kevin Feige is attempting to pump up Peyton Reed's geek cred (Reed almost directed Fox's Fantastic Four back in 2005, although given how that franchise turned out this might not be the most ringing endorsement) but here's a fun piece of info. When the Jack Kirby Museum opened up a temporary exhibit space in New York City last November (disclosure: this writer volunteered there for the duration of its limited one week engagement), who made a special trip in from North Carolina just to check out the space? None other than Peyton Reed. So, if nothing else, he has a genuine appreciation for the King.
In other news, Peyton Reed confirmed to ScreenRant (which comes to us via The Mary Sue) that Scott Lang's (Paul Rudd) daughter is in the movie. "Thematic arc really is a sort of passing-of-the-torch movie… Rudd’s character is an ex-con, a thief. It’s also got the structure of a heist movie. And there’s also a real personal dynamic to the movie, too. In the comics, Scott Lang has a daughter, and that’s part of the movie, too." Cassie Lang has always been part of Lang's motivation towards superheroics, so there's that.
