Justin Theroux reckons Zoolander 2 is getting closer, and that Ben Stiller will direct.
We've been doing this site now for over seven years, and for pretty much the duration of that time, there's been ongoing chatter about Zoolander2. Ben Stiller has remained interested in revisiting the character, and he tends to get asked about a sequel in 28.54% of interviews that he does.
This time, though, it's not him that's been asked about. Instead, Vulturechatted to Justin Theroux, who had a brief role in the original film, and has been working on the screenplay for Zoolander 2. And he revealed that "we've got a script for the sequel, and we've just been in talks again. We're trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don't want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running."
Theroux revealed that he's now working on the film full time, has met with Ben Stiller a few times, and "I'm meeting again with him probably in September".
Theroux had been earmarked as a potential director of Zoolander2, but admitted "I don't think I'm going to do it anymore". Instead, "it'll probably get handed to Ben."
We're still not quite at the green light moment, by the sounds of it. But the return of Derek Zoolander does seem to be edging that bit closer...
