It looks as if Michael Bay will be true to his word, and pass on directing the next Transformers movie...

For Michael Bay, it's been quite the summer. Transformers: Age Of Extinction has passed the $1bn mark at the global box office. Then, last weekend, the reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that he's overseen opened to $65m in the US, well above expectations. Michael Bay is now one of the few filmmakers who can pick pretty much any project he likes, and have a major movie studio pick up the bill without blinking.

However, it does look like Transformers 5 won't be that project.

Bay had previously hinted that the third Transformersmovie would be his last as director, before opting to return for this summer's Age Of Extinction. However, it looks like he may be serious this time about not taking on the next one. According to a new report at USA Today, Bay "believes he will pass the baton for future Transformersmovies to a new director while he turns his focus elsewhere". It's believed that his mooted project on elephant poaching is his likely next film, but don't hold us to that.

Paramount currently has Transformers 5 scheduled for 2016, so whoever the new director is will need to be sorted out soon. We'd expect Bay at the very least to remain a producer
