When robots become self-aware and rise up against their human masters, Antonio Banderas takes 'em on in the Automata trailer.
The robot revolution will not be televised. The first trailer for Automatafrom director Gabe Ibanez is here, and it looks pretty cool. More than cool, actually. Well, Antonio Banderas taking on a hefty chunk of sci-fi? We're interested.
Ibanez describes Automataas "this moment where artificial intelligence arrives at the same place as human intelligence." Automata is set 50 years in the future, and that seems a reasonable timetable, depending on who you're reading.

So, there are some pretty hefty Isaac Asimov vibes on display here, especially with what looks like something very similar to Asimov's First Law of Robotics as the first protocal we see here. Clearly, this is no accident. Why we haven't gotten more stuff explicitly inspired by Asimov's Robotseries is beyond me, but that's a topic for another article. As another huge bonus, this movie also has Robert Forster, which gets it some additional points.
Automatawill hit US theaters on October 10th.
