Harry Potter helmer David Yates is back in the fold to direct Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
David Yates, who directed four of the eight Harry Potter films, including both halves of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is returning to Hogwarts, erm...we mean Warner Bros. for more Potter-flavored films. Mr. Yates will direct Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, based on the JK Rowling book of the same name. The protagonist this time around isn't Harry Potter, but rather Newton Artemis Fido Scamander.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set 70 years before the events of the first Harry Potter movie and take place in New York. JK Rowling, author of the Potter series, is writing the screenplay. Yates' involvement is currently in the "in negotiations" phase, but given his strong history with the project, we figure it's a pretty safe bet.
We expect to find Fantastic Beasts on November 18th, 2016.
