Jake Gyllenhaal stars as a scummy paparazzo in this new crime thriller.
Nobody likes the paparazzi. Paparazzi photographers, technically not journalists but often lumped in with the lot, use cheap tricks and invade personal space and privacy in order to get a story. These freelancers rely on intruding in the lives of others to make a living. Freelance crime reporters sometimes prey on tragedy, swarming crime scenes and accident sites, to get the first scoop. It’s nasty behavior, but it gets ratings, and in an unstable job market, it helps pay the bills.
In the new film Nightcrawler, Jake Gyllenhaal portrays one of these morally grey media hounds. With greasy, slicked back hair and self-righteous smarm, Gyllenhaal raids crime scenes looking to score fame and a slice of the American Dream. When the camera-equipped Gyllenhaal stumbles upon a particularly heinous crime, how far will he go to lockdown the story for himself?
Yahoo! is hosting the new trailer, but you can check it out right below. The film also stars Bill Paxton and Rene Russo and is helmed by Dan Gilroy, a screenwriter maybe most famous for the work he did on the scrapped film Superman Lives, making his directorial debut. Gilroy and star Russo are married. Nightcrawler hits theaters October 31.
