Neil Marshal, of The Descent, Game of Thrones, the Constantine pilot, and more, would like a shot at directing a Black Widow solo movie.
When you've directed episodes of Black Sails and Game of Thrones, had your name called for the pilot of a high-profile network superhero show (Constantine), as well as films like The Descent and the brilliant Dog Soldiers, what's your next stop? The Marvel Universe, perhaps? Neil Marshall wouldn't mind.
Marshall would fit the profile of many of Marvel's recent hires in a number of ways. He's got plenty of TV experience, and in his case, it's TV with some production values and action, and he's done some solid genre work on the big screen. Vanity Fair were savvy enough to ask him about doing a female-fronted superhero movie, and this is what he said:
After saying that he'd "like to do a big movie with a strong female lead, whether or not she would be a superhero," Marshall got specific, saying "I would love to do a Black Widow movie. That’s perfect, I would love to do that. That character is really interesting, she doesn’t have any superpowers, she just has extraordinary skills, and the world that she comes from, being this ex-K.G.B. assassin, I find that really fascinating, yeah."
While we wouldn't say he's exactly lobbying for the job (Vanity Fairhelped get the interview to this place), that's a pretty positive expression of interest. You can read the rest of the interview, where Mr. Marshall also chats about Game of Thrones and Constantine, over at Vanity Fair.
