Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow reveals an image of homage screen legend Richard Attenborough.
Richard Attenborough is one of the great filmmakers of the 20th century. A storyteller who could do it all—act, direct, and produce—he left a staggering body of work behind when he passed away earlier this week. Whether it was turning stomachs as Pinkie in Brighton Rock (1947) or turning hearts and minds as the director behind the global phenomenon biopic Gandhi (1982), Attenborough’s work could not be missed.
Yet, for movie lovers of a certain age, he may first and foremost be remembered as the boisterous showman and entrepreneur with a twinkle in his eye: John Hammond from Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park (1993).
With another sequel on the way, next year’s Jurassic World, it makes sense the production, which wrapped principal photography earlier this month, would wish to pay tribute to the legend. Thus director Colin Trevorrow took to Twitter and did just that with an image of a life-sized statue of John Hammond that will apparently decorate Isla Nublar in Jurassic World.
Jurassic World is the fourth trip to Isla Nublar (or Isla Sorna) and its legendary inhabitants, just off the coast of Costa Rica. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, the film's cast includes Chris Pratt, Idris Elba, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson, and Irrfan Khan. The film is set to raise its gates on June 12, 2015.
