The Weinstein Company re-teams with cult director Quentin Tarantino to bring the world his latest film, The Hateful Eight.
The Hateful Eight, the next picture from director Quentin Tarantino, almost went unmade. However, the Weinstein Company is now set to make sure that Tarantino’s next picture will have the widest release possible.
Tarantino was ready to scrap the screenplay he produced for the new western after the script leaked online. There were considerations of turning the script into a novel instead, but after a successful live read through of the first draft, featuring actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Tim Roth, and Michael Madsen, Tarantino has decided to start production as planned on the picture. Principle photography for The Hateful Eight is set to begin in January.
The Weinstein Company, whose Harvey Weinstein has distributed all of the cult filmmaker’s movies either at TWC or Miramax, will once again distribute the new movie worldwide. The picture is being shot on 65 mm film and shares the matchless distinction of being the widest release of a film on 70mm film in 20 years. After the exclusive preliminary 70mm run, the movie will also be available in 35mm and DCP formats.
There’s no word on whether the actors involved in the live read through will appear in the filmed version. The Hateful Eight is expected in late 2015.
