Joe Dante, the perennial statesman for classic horror tropes mixed with even more classic comedy gags is debuting his latest effort at the Venice Film Festival. Set to premiere tomorrow in the City of Canals, Burying the Ex has given festivalgoers and genre lovers the world over its first look at a comedy about that ex who just won’t take a hint. Even when she’s dead.
Starring Ashley Greene (Twilight), Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), and Alexandra Daddario (True Detective), Burying the Ex tells the story of a girlfriend (Greene) that Yelchin’s young hero wanted to get away from. Indeed, he seems to find pretty definitive closure when the “ex” dies in a freak accident. But as the below clip showcases (as released via Deadline), being together “forever and ever” is something Greene takes quite literally.
As a film from the director of Gremlins and The Howling, we suspect this to only get more subversive and grotesquely slapstick with its violence from here after that clip.
