Wondering when Iron Man 4 is coming? From what Robert Downey Jr. is saying, you shouldn't hold your breath...
While in Toronto to promote his new film, The Judge, Robert Downey Jr. was asked about the possibility of Iron Man 4. Fans hoping for another solo adventure for Tony Stark will probably be disappointed by his answer.
“There isn’t one in the pipe,” Mr. Downey told Variety. “No, there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man.”
Darn it. And we had already picked out all the villains we want to see in Iron Man 4, too.
It doesn't mean he wouldn't do it, though. Back in July, Mr. Downey said “It’s that thing of: Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?” before cautioning, “Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out.”
Well, at least he won't be "knocked out" any time soon. We've still got Avengers: Age of Ultron to look forward to on May 1st, 2015, and the actor is already confirmed to appear in Avengers 3. While his portrayal of Tony Stark is certainly what made the Marvel Cinematic Universe such a viable force, Marvel doesn't necessarily need the Iron Man franchise for continued success, not when Guardians of the Galaxy just completed yet another successful weekend as the #1 movie at the US box-office.
We should also note that just because there is "no plan" for Iron Man 4right now, it doesn't mean that Marvel won't reconsider (or re-cast) in the next couple of years. But for now, it seems like we should prepare to say goodbye to RDJ's Tony Stark after Avengers 3.
